Hit-and-run accident injures young Denver area victim

In the event of a car accident, there are a number of steps drivers are typically required to take. First and foremost is pulling over to the side of the road, getting out and providing any necessary assistance, including calling for help. Drivers in hit-and-run accidents who flee the scene face serious legal consequences, as doing so complicates the recovery process for accident victims.

Denver residents may have heard that police in a nearby community have asked for assistance in identifying a driver in a hit-and-run accident that occurred early last month. The driver of a brown or gold Camry or Sentra, a model from the late 1990s, hit a 12-year-old girl who was crossing the street. The girl suffered serious injuries in the accident, but the driver fled and has thus far avoided police. A photo has been released to help in identifying the vehicle. Residents are encouraged to be on the lookout for a similar vehicle with front-end passenger side damage, hood damage, and perhaps tire damage.

Many victims of a hit-and-run accident may count themselves lucky that they survived at all. For those with serious injuries, however, this is a complex situation. They will likely face significant medical expenses, for which they are entitled to seek compensation from a negligent driver. But what can be done when the driver is unknown?

There are some steps that a legal professional can take to help, including gathering a broad spectrum of evidence from the scene of the accident and surrounding areas. Interviews, surveillance footage, analysis of the crash site and other efforts may help police identify the driver for purposes of prosecution as well as a personal injury lawsuit on the victim's behalf.
